Softball Recap: Oxford Wins Going Away Against Southaven

Oxford won the last time they faced Southaven and things went their way on Thursday too. Oxford put the hurt on Southaven with a sharp 7-1 win. Oxford might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Paisley Walls was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacei Clark, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Mary-Claire King was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

The victory got Oxford back to even at 7-7. As for Southaven, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Oxford will take on St. Benedict at Auburndale in a tournament on Friday. As for Southaven, they will take on Grenada at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
