The Tri-Valley Vikings will challenge the Monticello Sages at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tri-Valley will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Tri-Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past El Paso-Gridley 15-4 on Monday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Maren Milton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Zoey Whittaker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
Tri-Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Monticello has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging three runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They came up short against Mt. Zion, falling 13-6. The Sages have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Sadie Walsh was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Ali Weidner was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Tri-Valley's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Monticello, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 11-1.
Both Tri-Valley and Monticello just can't seem to miss. The Vikings have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Monticello struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tri-Valley suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Monticello in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
