Baseball Recap: Davenport Wins Going Away Against Wellston

Davenport made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Wellston, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs blew past the Tigers 13-5 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

Tyler Gilkison was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Gilkison was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Ivan Morris was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Devin Murfin, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Davenport's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Wellston, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Coming up, Davenport will face off against Coyle at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wellston, they will head out on the road to square off against Capitol Hill at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Redwolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.14 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
