Deakin Ragland was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Grady: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-7 otherwise. Rawley Bone also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Melrose made easy work of Floyd on Thursday and carried off a 28-1 win. Considering the Buffaloes have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Ty Windham was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Melrose got a massive performance out of Nolan Devaney, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Devaney a new career-high. Max Sena was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs.
Melrose was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .611. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Melrose has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.6 runs over those games. As for Grady, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Grady hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Melrose struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
