The El Capitan Vaqueros came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by Chula Vista at home to the tune of 78-33. Considering El Capitan has won six matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead El Capitan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andy Novelo-Gerardo, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Novelo-Gerardo is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kale Curo, who scored 17 points.
El Capitan pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Chula Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
El Capitan will head out on the road to face off against San Pasqual at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. San Pasqual is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. Chula Vista will be home for the holidays to greet El Cajon Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
