Lyman is 7-2 against Powell since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Lyman Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Powell Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully Lyman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
Last Friday, Lyman faced Pinedale in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lyman took a hard 65-49 fall against Pinedale. Lyman's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Despite their loss, Lyman saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Payton Anderson, who scored nine points along with four blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Anderson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of BriLee Bradshaw, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Powell had to settle for a 52-49 loss against Buffalo on Saturday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Powell in their matchups with Buffalo: they've now lost seven in a row.
Lyman's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Powell, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.
Lyman strolled past Powell in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a score of 56-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lyman since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
