The Kennedy Commanders will venture away from home to square off against the Aurora Central Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Kennedy didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln and fell 2-1. The Commanders haven't had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central got the win against Thornton on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-4. Aurora Central hasn't had any issues with Thornton recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Jorge De Los Santos made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Aurora Central let Toby Sanchez and Jose Gomez run wild. Sanchez went 3-for-6 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Gomez got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave Gomez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kirby Colbert-Olsen, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Aurora Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Aurora Central picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-8. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kennedy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Aurora Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kennedy might still be hurting after the 13-0 defeat they got from Aurora Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Commanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
