Cooper extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 2-9. They fell 9-4 to the Wolfe City Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Tuesday.
Kelci Sonntag spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and eight unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Cooper saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jentry Nabors, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that Nabors has hit this season.
As for Wolfe City, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1. Winning may never get old, but they sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
On Wolfe City's side, Hylee Crowell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Crowell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Summer Seago, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Hadlee Painter was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Looking ahead, Cooper is taking a road trip to take on Celeste at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Wolfe City, they will welcome North Hopkins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
