DAYTON, Nev. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Dayton (Nev.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Dust Devils bested Sparks (Nev.) 68-6.
After taking the lead on a
Christian Davis touchdown run in the first quarter, the Dust Devils led 30-0 at the half.
Dayton expanded its lead to 40 points entering the fourth quarter. DHS scored four times in the third, including once on a defensive touchdown.
Even though the Dust Devils led by 40 points entering the fourth quarter, they poured the points on, scoring 22 in the fourth.
Austin Fletcher stood out for Dayton in the win. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.
The Railroaders' lone touchdown came on an 8-yard run in the third quarter.
DHS came in allowing an average of 29.3 points per game this season.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Dust Devils came away with a 47-25 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Dayton, which was coming off a 21-16 defeat at the hands of Elko in its previous game.
Dayton (3-5) goes up against Fernley in a IA Northern game matchup next week, while Sparks (0-9) locks horns with Wooster also in a IA Northern game.
