Pittston has gone 8-2 against Wyoming Valley West recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Patriots will face off against the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Pittston is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Pittston is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Greater Nanticoke Area on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-0 win. Considering the Patriots have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brady Baldrica looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Silvio Giardina was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Beau Widdick, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs.
Pittston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Wilkes-Barre who claimed the real prize. The Spartans took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolfpack. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 23, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Wyoming Valley West also got a good showing from Ray Chimock, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chimock has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
Pittston pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wyoming Valley West, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Wyoming Valley West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pittston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Wyoming Valley West, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Pittston's hitters?
Everything went Pittston's way against Wyoming Valley West in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Pittston made off with a 15-4 victory. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
