Brandon is 8-1 against Northwest Rankin since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Brandon Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Northwest Rankin Cougars at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brandon has seven straight victories, Northwest Rankin has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Brandon faced Meridian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Brandon managed a 41-35 win over Meridian. Given Brandon's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked third, while Meridian is ranked 25th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nate Blount iv had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Jamerion Rollins got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Northwest Rankin pushed their score all the way to 31 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 38-31 to Petal.
Brandon's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.3 points per game. As for Northwest Rankin, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Brandon beat Northwest Rankin 36-28 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brandon since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
