The Meyersdale Red Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their ninth straight defeat. They were beaten by Turkeyfoot Valley Area 70-43. Meyersdale has not had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Meyersdale had strong showings from Spencer Whitfield, who scored 15 points along with two steals, and Carter Vogt, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Vogt continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Aiden Thomas was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Leading Turkeyfoot Valley Area to victory were Zack Ryan and Bryce Nicholson. Ryan scored eight points along with nine assists and eight rebounds, while Nicholson scored 27 points along with five steals. Nicholson is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Younkin, who scored seven points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.
Meyersdale dropped their record down to 1-18 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Meyersdale will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Cougars at 7:15 p.m. North Star presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Red Raiders in Pennsylvania (the Cougars are ranked 279th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 727th). As for Turkeyfoot Valley Area, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Vikings at 7:15 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Shanksville Stonycreek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday.
