Basketball Recap: Woodruff Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Woodruff lost to Mid-Carolina back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Woodruff Wolverines strolled past the Mid-Carolina Rebels with points to spare, taking the game 56-41. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Rebels are ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Woodruff's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sadie Burnette, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 23 points and six rebounds. Burnette's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jensyn Turner, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Mid-Carolina lost, don't look at Callie Wilbanks. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Wilbanks has posted since back in December of 2023. BreA Boyd was another key player, putting up eight points.

Woodruff pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Mid-Carolina, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Woodruff wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 41-39 win against Laurens on the 11th. As for Mid-Carolina, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-44 victory against Saluda on the 10th.
