Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Washington is ranked 418th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
SouthWest Edgecombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaliyah Whitehead, who scored 24 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whitehead has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kd Collins, who scored 14 points along with nine assists and four steals.
Tarboro suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Washington County, falling 75-42. Tarboro was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.
SouthWest Edgecombe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Tarboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
Everything came up roses for SouthWest Edgecombe against Tarboro in their previous meeting on Saturday as the team secured a 67-13 victory. With SouthWest Edgecombe ahead 47-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
