The Calvary Baptist Cougars will square off against the Packinghouse Christian Academy Bears at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Baptist is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 16.3 runs per game this season.
Calvary Baptist is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Southlands Christian just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-0. The Cougars were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the seven games prior), but the Eagles' pitcher proved too tough.
Calvary Baptist saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bri Rosales, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Packinghouse Christian Academy had just enough and edged out Cornerstone Christian 11-10 on Friday.
Emily Toma made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Toma was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Madison Hopkins was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jenae Uy, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Packinghouse Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornerstone Christian only posted an OBP of .389.
Packinghouse Christian Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Calvary Baptist, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Packinghouse Christian Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Calvary Baptist hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. It's a different story for Packinghouse Christian Academy, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Calvary Baptist's hitters?
