Chelsea Miller was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Faith Savage, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs.
Marlington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Springfield never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past East 15-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Joey Klein was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Hannah Goodson was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Bre Ruggiero was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Springfield pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Marlington, their record is now 15-5.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marlington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
