Softball Recap: Minerva's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Minerva had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Carrollton Warriors on Tuesday. For the Lions, this counts as revenge for the 11-4 win the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Sierra Cress made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Rachel Weaver was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gabby Kashdan, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Minerva always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carrollton only posted an OBP of .259.

Minerva's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-9. As for Carrollton, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minerva will host Beaver Local at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Beavers will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Carrollton, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against East Liverpool at 5:00 p.m. The Warriors are facing the Potters at the right time seeing as the Potters are stuck on a 20-game losing streak.
