The Browne Bruins will square off against the West Point Dragons at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Point will be up against a hot Browne squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Bruins put the hurt on Cesar Chavez with a sharp 11-1 victory on Monday.
Browne let Annalyssia Ramos and Anahi Rocha run wild. Ramos scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Rocha went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance also gave Ramos a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Dania Duran, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Browne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cesar Chavez only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, West Point got themselves on the board against Valley Vista on Thursday, but Valley Vista never followed suit. They blew past the Monsoon 19-0. The Dragons have beaten the Monsoon the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Monsoon has come to flipping the script.
Angelique Chavez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, West Point got a massive performance out of Zerianna Gomez, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Leilani Mendez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 1-for-2.
Browne pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for West Point, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
West Point's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Browne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for West Point, though, as they've been averaging only 2.5 strikeouts. Will Browne keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
Browne suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to West Point when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
