Overland hasn't had much luck against Skyview recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Blazers will welcome the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Overland made up a huge gap compared to their last game against DSST: Montview, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blazers fell just short of the Knights by a score of 12-10 on Monday.
Brayan Ascencio was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Bryson Riordan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Skyview came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Eagles 11-1. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Kaleb Rodriguez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. He is becoming a predictor of Skyview's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlos Carrillo, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Skyview: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Andrew Casillas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Skyview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Skyview's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Overland, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Overland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. However, it's not like Skyview struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Overland might still be hurting after the 21-9 loss they got from Skyview in their previous meeting on April 2nd. Will the Blazers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
