The Cathedral Catholic Dons pushed their score all the way to 72 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Strake Jesuit 76-72. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cathedral Catholic came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 124th in California, while Strake Jesuit is ranked 368th in Texas).
Despite the defeat, Cathedral Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Ty Ingram scored 20 points. The matchup was Ingram's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Bobby Tyson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Strake Jesuit's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Lin, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Michael Crutchfield, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Cathedral Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Strake Jesuit, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Cathedral Catholic is on the road again on Friday and play against Loyola on December 8th. Loyola will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Strake Jesuit won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Archbishop Mitty at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th.
