Baseball Recap: Muncie Burris Wins Going Away Against Union

Muncie Burris won the last time they faced Union and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Owls blew past the Rockets 12-1. The match marked the Owls' most dominant win of the season.

Beau Edmonds made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Muncie Burris' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Edmonds was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Nicolas Bontzek was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Evans, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Muncie Burris always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Muncie Burris and bumps their season record up to 5-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Union, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Muncie Burris will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cambridge City Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. As for Union, they will take on Anderson Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.5 runs per game on average), something the Rockets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
