The Wakulla War Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Holmes County Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakulla knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Holmes County likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Wakulla was able to grind out a solid win over Bloomingdale, taking the game 13-8.
Parker Stubbs and Cylie Long did most of the damage at the plate: Stubbs scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Long got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI. Mia Withers also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Holmes County made easy work of Destin on Monday and carried off a 12-4 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by eight runs or more this season.
Bri Adams made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Adams was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-5.
In other pitching news, Savannah Ludwig looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacee Bowers, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Kiersten Womble was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Holmes County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive games.
Wakulla pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Holmes County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Wakulla hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Holmes County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wakulla beat Holmes County 4-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wakulla since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
