The Wichita Falls Coyotes will square off against the Canyon Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wichita Falls is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Wichita Falls was beaten by Springtown 64-21. While losing is never fun, Wichita Falls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 620th, while Springtown is ranked 231st).
Despite their loss, Wichita Falls saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Eric Powell, who rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Zage Gravitt, who threw for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Canyon put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 44-17 win over Pampa. Canyon pushed the score to 44-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Pampa cut but never quite recovered from.
Wichita Falls' loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
