Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Marana suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Tucson High Magnet School at home and fell 70-37. While losing is never fun, Marana can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Tucson High Magnet School is ranked 25th).
Meanwhile, Rincon/University took a serious blow against Tucson High Magnet School on Thursday, falling 83-50. Rincon/University was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-19.
Marana has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Rincon/University, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
Marana came up short against Rincon/University in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 101-93. Thankfully for Marana, Cole Vernon (who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
