The Sandia Matadors can now show off 15 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 70-28 win over Piedra Vista on the road. Winning may never get old, but Sandia sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Sandia was led to victory by Hope Giddings and Sydney Benally. Giddings scored 18 points, while Benally scored 19 points along with four steals. Benally is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiyah Benally, who scored 13 points.
Piedra Vista's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tyra Holyan, who scored ten points, and Karen Stanley who scored eight points.
Sandia pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Piedra Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.
Sandia is on the road again on Tuesday and plays West Mesa at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. West Mesa will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Sandia is ranked third). As for Piedra Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Farmington at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
