Basketball Recap: St. Vincent's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but St. Vincent unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 56-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Burke Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 242nd in Georgia, while the Bulldogs are ranked 77th in South Carolina).

Leading Burke to victory were Nathaya Phoenix and Kendall Smith. Phoenix went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists, while Smith posted 11 points and six steals. Phoenix is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.

St. Vincent's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Burke, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4.

St. Vincent's will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wayne County at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Burke and Halls will round out the year against one another at at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
