Frontier (Bakersfield, Calif.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to 10, but still managed to hang on and defeat
Centennial (Bakersfield, Calif.) 24-14 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Evan Moore to
Justin Cash in the first quarter, the Titans led 14-7 at the half.
Frontier expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. FHS scored once in the quarter on a
Triton Douglas touchdown run.
The Golden Hawks'
Olivas Coleman played well. The sophomore wide receiver kicked two extra points.
Douglas was the top performer for the Titans. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Frontier came in allowing an average of 21.2 points per game this season. FHS held firm on the defensive front, and kept Centennial well below the 27.6 points it had been averaging per game.
The Titans got revenge for last year's 28-21 loss to CHS with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Centennial, which notched a 56-33 victory over Tulare Union in its previous outing.
Centennial (2-4) goes up against Stockdale in a Southwest Yosemite game matchup next week, while Frontier (3-3) locks horns with Liberty also in a Southwest Yosemite game.
