A big 22-point second quarter helped carry
Stone Ridge Christian (Merced, Calif.) to a 34-6 victory over
Millennium (Tracy, Calif.) on Saturday.
The Knights scored on a
Eric Doss touchdown pass to
Josh Amaral, a defensive touchdown and a touchdown run by
Estevon Herrera in the quarter.
The lead that Stone Ridge Christian took on a Herrera touchdown run with 10:00 to go in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
SRC's standout player in the win was Herrera. The junior ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
The Falcons'
Gavin Compton played well. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.
Millennium's lone touchdown came on a 3-yard pass from Compton to
Alex Lambert in the second quarter.
The Merced school had struggled this season, allowing 34.6 points per game. But the Knights tightened up and held MHS well below its season average of 17.0 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Tracy school took, 47-14.
The defeat comes as a step back for Millennium, which notched a 54-6 victory over Woodland Poly in its previous outing.
Millennium (1-5) goes up against Big Valley Christian in a Central California AA game matchup next week, while Stone Ridge Christian (2-4) locks horns with Elliot Christian also in a Central California AA game.
