Baseball Game Preview: West Washington Senators vs. Paoli Rams

West Washington is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Thursday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Paoli Rams at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, West Washington made easy work of Christian Academy and carried off a 16-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Senators.

Hayden Morrow was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Paoli took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Shoals a 17-0 shutout. The Rams have beaten the Jug Rox the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Jug Rox has come to flipping the script.

Austin Chastain made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chastain was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Cooper Spires and Kirkland Hughes did most of the damage at the plate: Spires scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Hughes scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Peyton Baker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

West Washington came out on top in a nail-biter against Paoli in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Senators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
