Basketball Recap: Lawrence-Nelson Takes a Loss

If Lawrence-Nelson was feeling good fresh off their 38-11 takedown of Harvard last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders had to suffer through a 58-18 loss at the hands of the Superior Wildcats. The Raiders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-6.

When it comes to explaining why Lawrence-Nelson lost on Friday, don't look at Kara Menke. Despite the final result, she posted four points and six boards. Menke is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Superior got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sadie Cornell out in front who went 7-for-17 on her way to 20 points and five steals. What's more, Cornell also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Faith Anne Butler, who had 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Lawrence-Nelson has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Superior, bringing their record for this year to 18-4.

Lawrence-Nelson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-36 victory against Meridian on the 19th. As for Superior, they have also already played their next contest, a 55-33 win against Deshler on the 19th.
