The Olentangy Liberty Patriots entered their tilt with the Olentangy Braves with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Olentangy Liberty walked away with a 51-40 win over Olentangy on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Olentangy Liberty's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Olentangy is ranked fourth).
Gigi Bower continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Olentangy Liberty's points. Addy Pyles was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Olentangy still got an impressive performance from Sydney Mobley, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Mobley is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kate Mosher, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Olentangy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Olentangy Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Olentangy, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olentangy Liberty will take on Dublin Coffman at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dublin Coffman will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Olentangy, Olentangy and Olentangy Berlin will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Olentangy Berlin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Saturday.
