Coming into the game Edcouch-Elsa had allowed 20.6 points per game this year. EE held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Patriots well below the 29.8 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 49-0 win for the Yellowjackets.
The defeat comes as a step back for Veterans Memorial, which notched a 31-17 victory over Valley View in its previous outing. The victory was a step in the right direction for Edcouch-Elsa, which was coming off a 41-20 defeat at the hands of Mission in its previous game.
Edcouch-Elsa (4-2) goes up against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest in a 4A Region IV District 32 game matchup next week, while Veterans Memorial (3-3) locks horns with Roma in a non-conference game.
