Cummings and Jordan-Matthews are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Cummings Cavaliers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Jordan-Matthews Jets at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Cummings suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They were beaten by Southeast Alamance 56-21. While losing is never fun, Cummings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while Southeast Alamance is ranked 106th).
Meanwhile, Jordan-Matthews' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Seaforth, falling 63-12. Jordan-Matthews has struggled against Seaforth recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Jordan-Matthews saw an underclassman step up: Yamilet Lozano scored five points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Jordan-Matthews struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Seaforth racked up 14 assists.
Cummings bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.3 points per game. As for Jordan-Matthews, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Cummings couldn't quite finish off Jordan-Matthews in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 40-37. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jordan-Matthews' Lia Carter, who scored 25 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Now that Cummings knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
