The Fort Wayne Northrop Bruins will head out on the road to challenge the Fremont Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fort Wayne Northrop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Fort Wayne Northrop came up short against Norwell and fell 7-4. The Bruins have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Fort Wayne Northrop saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Baylee Huth, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Fremont came into Thursday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Lakeland by a score of 7-4 on Thursday.
Mallorie Huffnagle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Fremont let Chloe Verdin and Myleigh Carper run wild. Verdin went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Carper went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Verdin has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Stevens, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fremont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only managed five hits.
Fremont's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they now also have a losing record of 9-10.
Fremont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fort Wayne Northrop has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Fremont, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Fort Wayne Northrop's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fort Wayne Northrop beat Fremont 7-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
