Basketball Recap: Contra Costa Christian Comes Up Short

Contra Costa Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost to the Redwood Christian Eagles at home by a 64-46 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1128th, while the Eagles are ranked 304th).

When it comes to explaining why Contra Costa Christian lost, don't look at Carson Faber. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Faber's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gerrit Johnston, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Contra Costa Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Leading Redwood Christian to victory were Nehemiah Mitchell and David Rogers. Mitchell went 7 for 14 on his way to 16 points along with six assists and three steals, while Rogers dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Rogers is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last nine games he's played. Garrett Hubbard was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Contra Costa Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Redwood Christian, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.

Contra Costa Christian has already played their next game (against Fremont Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Redwood Christian has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Berean Christian.
