Frewsburg hasn't had much luck against Chautauqua Lake recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bears will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m.
Frewsburg is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They fell 9-6 to Westfield. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Presleigh Stelmack was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Elysse Gruber, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Chautauqua Lake, as they earned their first away win of the season. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over Cassadaga Valley on Monday. Considering the Eagles have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Cayzlee Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Jillan Miller was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Lucy Gates was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.
Chautauqua Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Chautauqua Lake picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 4-2. As for Frewsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Frewsburg couldn't quite get it done against Chautauqua Lake when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
