After a string of three wins, the Burke Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 68-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cross. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Burke's loss came despite strong showings from Terry Jenkins and Melachi Singleton. Jenkins scored 22 points along with eight blocks, while Singleton scored 21 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Singleton has scored all season.
Cross' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caden Ramsey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Ramsey hasn't dropped below 17 points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Dominick Lampkin, who scored 20 points along with four steals.
Burke's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-8. As for Cross, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burke will challenge the Eagles at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Military Magnet Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 305 points over their last five games. As for Cross, they will head out on the road to challenge the Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Palmetto Scholars Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Trojans are ranked 134th).
