The Eagle Valley Devils and the Moffat County Bulldogs will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Eagle Valley is ranked 184th, while Moffat County is ranked 179th).
Eagle Valley's game on Saturday was all tied up 26-26 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Loveland.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Zakia Shreeve, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. She scored a full 26.9% of Eagle Valley's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Mandeville, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Moffat County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They walked away with a 42-34 victory over Glenwood Springs. That looming 42-34 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Moffat County yet this season.
Moffat County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caitlyn Adams led the charge by scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Adams pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emma Tucker, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Eagle Valley now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Moffat County, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-3.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Eagle Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Moffat County, though, as they've been averaging only 23.8 rebounds per game. Given Eagle Valley's sizeable advantage in that area, Moffat County will need to find a way to close that gap.
Eagle Valley came up short against Moffat County when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 34-28. Can Eagle Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
