Laney has gone 9-1 against West Brunswick recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, both will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Laney is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Ashley: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Laney blew Ashley out of the water with a 75-46 final score. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Screaming Eagle are ranked 304th), the result last Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Laney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Colin Lamb led the charge by as he made all 5 shots he took racking up 10 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Fortun, who posted 12 points.
Laney smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, West Brunswick fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Hoggard last Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Vikings 66-61. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on January 9th (55), the Trojans still had to take the loss.
Laney will need focus on slowing down K'Veon Griffin, one of several West Brunswick players who made an impact when they last played. He went 5 for 8 en route to 16 points. Griffin has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew McKenney, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points.
Laney's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for West Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Laney has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 30.7 boards per game. However, it's not like West Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Laney strolled past West Brunswick when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 52-35. Does Laney have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Brunswick turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
