The Shelby Golden Lions extended their postseason success on Friday against the Salisbury Hornets. They strolled past the Hornets with points to spare, taking the game 38-21. Shelby's victory was all the more impressive since Salisbury was averaging only 9.46 points allowed on the season.
Shelby got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lan Farmer out in front who threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt. Izay Bridges was in the mix as well, providing Shelby with two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Salisbury lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jamal Rule. Despite the final result, he rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Rule is absolutely dominating the rushing yard category: he's posted at least 100 every time he's taken the field this season. Mike Geter was another key contributor, throwing for 139 yards and a touchdown.
The last time Shelby lost on the road was back back in August. Having now won four straight away games, they've pushed their record up to 10-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Salisbury, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-1.
Shelby will take on Forest Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Forest Hills will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Salisbury does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
