Trenton Catholic Academy came out on top against Doane Academy by a score of 69-61 on Friday. Given Trenton Catholic Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Doane Academy is ranked 354th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Doane Academy players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nick Fusco, who scored 20 points along with six assists. Fusco has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Hiatt Smith was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Trenton Catholic Academy pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Doane Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
Trenton Catholic Academy will head out on the road to square off against Cinnaminson at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Cinnaminson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 200 points over their last three games. As for Doane Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northern Burlington at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
