Hayward took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Moreau Catholic Mariners 35-14. For the Farmers, this counts as revenge for the 29-14 win the Mariners walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.

Hayward's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malachi Ferguson, who rushed for 97 yards and one score on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydyn Irving, who threw for 180 yards and one TD on only 17 passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hayward was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 177 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Moreau Catholic's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zion Dysart, who rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and Seth Evans, who rushed for 92 yards and one score. Evans also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles.

Looking ahead, Hayward will take on Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Moreau Catholic, they will challenge Salesian College Preparatory at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
