Malcolm is 8-2 against the Chieftains since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Malcolm Clippers will look to defend their home court against the Yutan Chieftains at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Malcolm is ranked 50th, while the Chieftains are ranked 27th).
Malcolm fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Warriors on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 46-44. Malcolm has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Despite the defeat, Malcolm saw an underclassman step up: Halle Dolliver dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 59.1% of Malcolm's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenna Powell, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Malcolm struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wahoo pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Yutan came tearing into Thursday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 45-35 win over Syracuse.
Malcolm's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Yutan, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Malcolm beat the Chieftains 56-47 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will Malcolm repeat their success, or do the Chieftains have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
