For the first time this season, Spurger will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
After dropping their season opener at home, Hull-Daisetta is headed out to face a Pirates team ready to give their home crowd a win. Spurger fell just short of Colmesneil by a score of 8-6 last Tuesday.
Spurger saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was B Duckworth, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Canyon Baker was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hull-Daisetta). They blew past Leggett 21-1 on Monday. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Paxton Walters made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Walters was even better at the plate, earning five RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Zach Burks was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Mocini, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Hull-Daisetta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Spurger got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Hull-Daisetta by a conclusive 20-6 score. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
