It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Pueblo Central Wildcats ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against Pueblo South by a score of 40-33. For Pueblo Central, this counts as revenge for the 30-25 defeat Pueblo South walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pueblo Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leyal Padilla, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Emeri Whiting, who scored nine points.
Despite the loss, Pueblo South still got an impressive performance from Gracie Gonzales, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Gonzales scored 15 or more points.
Pueblo Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Pueblo South, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo Central will take on Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo West will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Pueblo South, they will head out on the road to challenge Pueblo East at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pueblo East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Monday.
