Typically, winning a state championship in and of itself is a huge accomplishment, but winning in such convincing fashion is truly a testament to Manchester's hard work on and off of the field. The Lancers dominated everybody on their schedule, winning by an average margin of victory of 50 points a game. Just one of 50 football programs nationally to earn an invitation to the Tour of Champions, Manchester gave up only 70 points all season. MaxPreps and the Virginia Army National Guard were on hand to celebrate Manchester football at halftime of the Lancer boys varsity basketball game with Bird.
The Tour of Champions arrived on campus at 5:30 p.m. and began setting up the display of the eye-catching ‘Minuteman' trophy, officially known as the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Fans showed up early, making the celebration a success before it even started. As halftime arrived, the PA announcer introduced MaxPreps representative Nick Capote, who spoke briefly about Lancer football's accomplishments. Capote then put into perspective just how rare it is to be in the national spotlight and how deserving the Lancers were due to their dominating season.
After explaining how unique it is to be so highly ranked, Capote congratulated the Lancers and introduced Sergeant First Class Robert Cosner of the Virginia Army National Guard. SFC Cosner then presented head coach Tom Hall and the Lancers with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. On behalf of the 14th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, congratulations to the Manchester High School football team. Your outstanding display of determination, perseverance, leadership and dedication has led you to this national spotlight!
