Softball Recap: Fair Grove Wins High-Profile Match Against Clever

Fair Grove faced Clever in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles never let the Blue Jays get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Eagles have beaten the Blue Jays the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blue Jays has come to flipping the script.

Aubrie Voorhis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Voorhis was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. Gracie Crandall also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Fair Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.

Fair Grove pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Clever, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fair Grove will take on Diamond at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clever, they will challenge Ash Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Jays are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
