Given Wilson Hall's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while John Paul II is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wilson Hall got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Miles Van patten out in front who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Van patten was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Blake VanPatten was another key contributor, picking up 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Northwood Academy missed an extra point against Pinewood Prep on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Northwood Academy was just a hair shy of victory and fell 14-13 to Pinewood Prep. That's two games in a row now that Northwood Academy has lost by exactly a single point.
Despite their defeat, Northwood Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Austyn Grady, who punched in a rushing score, and also threw for 226 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all.
Wilson Hall has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Northwood Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the pair haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Wilson Hall commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 4.9 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Northwood Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 5.3 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
