The North Laurel Jaguars will challenge the Casey County Rebels at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. North Laurel is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
North Laurel proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Boyle County 3-2.
Tessa Monhollen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, North Laurel let Saige McClure and Emma Carl run wild. McClure went 2-for-3 with one home run, while Carl went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Casey County had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Garrard County on Thursday. The Rebels not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28th (when they won 16-1).
Emily Jeffries was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Jeffries was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Elizabeth Forbes was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Grace Mason was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Casey County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
North Laurel's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Casey County, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
North Laurel took their win against Casey County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-6 score. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
