The New Prairie Cougars had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by South Central 49-48 on Saturday. The victory was just what New Prairie needed coming off of a 69-32 defeat in their prior contest.
New Prairie's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Wiginton, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Klute, who scored nine points.
Several Satellites players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jay Huerta, who scored 15 points. Derek Welsh was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
New Prairie's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-13. As for South Central, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Prairie and Elkhart will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Elkhart is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for South Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Morgan Township at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Morgan Township focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
